Belgavi (Karnataka): An unidentified person shot at Sri Ram Sene’s Belagavi district president Ravi Kokitkar. The incident took place at native Hindalga village of Ravi near Belagavi city yesterday late evening. Kokitkar escaped with injuries on the chin and his driver with injuries on his hand.
“Ravi Kokitkar was returning to Belagavi from Hindalga. The incident took place when the four-wheeler vehicle slowed down due to a hump ahead. That is when an unknown person on a motorbike shot at Ravi Kokitkar, who was sitting at the front seat. Fortunately for him, bullet missed the target. However, Kokitkar sustained injuries on his chin and his driver on his hand,” City Police Commissioner MB Boralingaiah. The Commissioner shared these details with reporters here on Saturday.
The firing took place between 7.30 pm and 7.45 pm, he said. There were four people including the injured persons travelling in the car. Soon after the incident, bystanders rushed both the injured to the hospital. The duo and are out of danger, police said.
The police are conducting investigation from all angles, whether there was personal or ideological reason for the accused to have fired at the victims, police added. Police has registered a case in Belagavi rural police station. Officials have initiated a probe to identify and nab the accused, the police said.
Sri Ram Sene’s Founder Pramod Muthalik condemned the attack on Ravi. He has demanded that police should check the CCTV cameras near the Hindalga Central Jail. DCP Ravindra Gadadi, Boralingaiah visited the private hospital.
As a precautionary measure, a Karnataka Special Reserve Police (KSRP) team has been stationed near the hospital in which Kokitkar is admitted.

Swinging swiftly into action, Karnataka Police has arrested three persons involved in the shooting. The three persons arrested are Abhijit Bhatkande, Rahul Kodachawada and Jyotiba Gangaram.
ADGP, Law and Order, Ashok Kumar congratulated CP of Belagavi for solving the case within 16 hours.
