Rahul Gandhi has once again raised a controversy on Hindi. The Congress leader during his ongoing Bharat Jodo Yatra made unpleasant remarks on Hindi. Rahul said,”If you want to speak to people of rest of the world, Hindi will not work, English will,”. He gave this controversial statement during his address in Alwar.
Perhaps, he wants to sound different as compared to PM Narendra Modi. Whether addressing United Nations assembly or talking to top world leaders, Prime Minister Narendra Modi proudly speaks in Hindi. Even during the G-20 proceedings whose presidency is presently with India, the PM talks in the national language. But Gandhi family scion Rahul Gandhi thinks otherwise.
Further, speaking about Rajasthan government opening several English medium schools in the state, he took pot shots at the BJP leaders.
“We want children of poor farmers and labourers to go and compete with Americans and win over them using their language. BJP leaders don’t want us to teach English in schools. But children of all their leaders go to English medium schools. Actually, they don’t want children of poor farmers and labourers to learn English, dream big and get out of fields,” he added.
Rahul’s Hindi speech is written in English
Rahul Gandhi had become a laughing stock when pictures of his speech went viral on social media. It was during August of 2015. Rahul was addressing Lok Sabha. Apparently Rahul himself, or his speech writers had written his speech in Roman script. This reflects very poorly on Rahul’s understanding of Hindi.
Replying to him, Shazia Ilimi, BJP spokesperson, said, “Does Rahul Gandhi know what language Italy uses? He can’t denigrate Hindi like this.”
Criticising the statement, advocate Ishakran Singh Bhandari, said, “France, Germany, Japan, Norway, Sweden etc all proud of their National Language! All rich countries. Rahul Gandhi somehow thinks Hindi keep you poor & Stops big Dreams? This world view of always looking down at things local/natural to Bharat has caused massive harm.”
