New Delhi: This is an opportune time for India to hit back at Qatar, the country that asked India to explain Nupur Sharma’s remarks about the Prophet. Now it is the turn of Qatar to give some explanation. Nupur Sharma had stated the exact facts about the Prophet that Naik had himself stated on his TV channel.
If Qatar had raised questions on Nupur’s statement, shouldn’t it object to Naik’s utterings? If it doesn’t, that means Qatar acknowledges Naik’s statement on the Prophet as right? If yes, then Nupur’s statement also should be ticked right.
So, Qatar cannot have two views on the same issue, and India should seek explanation, since it has invited Naik to deliver lectures during the FIFA World Cup. Indian government at the center should not waste any time to raise this issue as it is the most opportune time.
Why is this an opportune time?
Qatar is presently facing a lot of heat across continents over deaths of migrant workers during World Cup preparations; its treatment of the LGBT community, its ban on liquor during the tournament; and a very strict code of behaviour outlined for the fans who are in Qatar to enjoy the game.
In the changed global scenario, other Gulf countries like Saudi Arabia and the UAE are heading towards more inclusive and equal societies and preferring warm relations with India. So, India must politely tell Qatar to deplatform and reject elements like Naik strongly.
