Controversial stand-up comedian Munawar Faruqui is playing “victim card”. It all started when organisers cancelled his forthcoming show in Bengaluru. This is said to be his 12th show to be cancelled in two months.

Growing number of complaints from various people and organisations against him has resulted in this humiliation for the Islamist comedian. He had to spend a month in jail earlier this year on charges of “insulting Hindu gods and goddesses” during one of his ‘comedy’ shows. Munawar has enraged Hindus by repeatedly making fun of their sentiments.

Having hurt Hindus’ feelings and sentiments, Faruqui, said, “Inki nafrat ka bahana ban gaya hoon. Hasa kar kitno ka sahara ban gaya hoon. Tootne pe inki Khwahish hogi puri Sahi kehte hai, mai Sitara ban gaya hoon. I think this is The End. My name is Munawar Faruqui. And That’s been my time, you guys were wonderful audience A Good bye! Im done,” he posted on Instagram.”

Is killing of innocent Hindus a joke?

Citizens called out his hypocrisy on various social media platforms. Journalist Pradeep Bhandari, said, “I come from an India where people get sensitive over deaths of Palestinians but justify jokes cracked on Godhra train tragedy victims.”

Bhandari was referring to an act of Farouqi in which the ‘comedian’ was making fun of 58 innocent Hindus killed in Godhra. In 2002, Islamists had burned a coach of a train in which Hindu pilgrims were returning. In this gruesome incident, those burnt to death included women, children and infants.

BJP leader Priti Gandhi, added, “All those who are shedding bucketfuls of tears for #MunawarFaruqi’s show being cancelled after he mocked Hindu gods are the same people who were trying to defend Kamlesh Tiwari’s throat being slit!!”

Another one tweeted, “‘Nafrat Jeet Gayi’ said a comedian whose livelihood was based on cracking jokes on the Burning bodies of Hindus.”
Savio Rodrigues, pointed out, “The problem with people like #MunawarFaruqi is that they find it easy to mock and then cry when they got kicked in the cock.”
Netizens have created several memes about Munawar. In one of them, Munawar is holding a placard which reads, “Upgrade our victim card. No one taking us seriously.”

Citizens are angry at his arrogance. The fact that he is not apologising for his comments on revered Hindu gods and Godhra riot victims has not gone down well. One Ashish Pandey, said, “If you want yours shows not to be cancelled anymore, Then, First apologies for this mocking. Be kind and Be shameful simultaneously for your stupid content.”

Munawar gets support from the usual suspects

Several congress leaders have come to his support. Also, left leaning individuals like entertainer Swara Bhaskar are supporting Faruqui.
Congress man Srivatsa posted a pic of a youth and tweeted, “This cheap bhakt hatemonger is encouraged by two women BJP cabinet ministers. But #MunawarFaruqui is harassed, threatened and jailed. The Joke is on our Democracy. .”

Swara Bhaskar has retweeted this tweet.
