Kanpur: In a significant development relating to security, the role of jailed Samajwadi Party MLA Irfan Solanki and local corporator Manny Rahman issuing fake certificates to facilitate the stay of illegal Bangladeshi nationals in the city has come to light.
Kanpur police has revealed these startling facts after detaining five members of a Bangladeshi family, including a juvenile. The police officials detained them after they found that they possessed fake Indian passports. They also had Bangladeshi passports, Aadhar cards and other documents.
The fake documents that facilitated the illegal Bangladeshi had signatures of Haji Irfan Solanki. Law and Order Joint Police Commissioner Anand Prakash Tiwari told this to media persons. He said that the police will match the signatures of leaders with those on fake certificates issued to illegal Bangladeshi nationals.
During the search operation, the police seized 13 fake passports and five Aadhar cards from the aliens. Police also seized education certificates, foreign currency, gold ornaments and more than Rs 14 lakh in cash.
Those arrested and detained were identified as Rizwan Mohammad, 53, his father Khalid Majid, 79, his wife Hina Khalid and their two children. Rizwan is a native of Khulna in Bangladesh.
The police said Rizwan initially tried to mislead them, but later confessed to the crime during questioning.
They frequently crossed borders
Rizwan had visited India in 1996 on a tourist visa and solemnised his marriage to Hina Khalid in 1998 in Delhi, Tiwari said. The accused used fake passports to travel to Pakistan, Thailand, Nepal and other countries, he said.
Hina had also visited Bangladesh by trespassing and obtained a Bangladeshi passport before returning to India. Their children, Rizwan (21) and his 17-year-old son had also visited Bangladesh illegally and obtained passports there, he said.
The accused have been booked under the Indian Penal Code and the Foreigners Act of 1946.
