New Delhi: Yesterday, Industrialist Gautam Adani broke the hearts of the troll gang. Over the years, Rahul Gandhi had hurled abuses, spread falsehoods and accused industrialists of crony capitalism. He had accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of helping his two friends Adani and Mukesh Ambani. RaGa tried to create an impression that Modi helped them create wealth at the cost of common people. He did this with help of “Liberal” or Lutyen’s media.
But, in an interview to India Today, Adani refuted Rahul Gandhi’s charges of him benefitting from his ties with PM Modi. He said that one should not link the growth of his business empire to any one political leader. The leaders who contributed in his success, over the period of 30 years, include Rajiv Gandhi and Narasimha Rao.
Adani said the group company’s journey began more than three decades ago when Congress leader Rajiv Gandhi was Prime Minister. “PM Modi and I are from the same state. That makes me the easy target of such baseless allegations… It is unfortunate that such narratives are being pushed against me,” he said.
“These allegations suffer from recency bias, seeing our group’s success through a short-term lens. The fact of the matter is that my professional success is not because of any individual leader. It is because of the policy and institutional reforms initiated by several leaders and governments during a long period of over three decades,” Adani said.
Four stages of Adani group
“It will surprise people to know that it all began during the tenure of Rajiv Gandhi as Prime Minister, when he first liberalised the Exim (export-import) policy. But for Rajiv Gandhi, my journey as an entrepreneur would never have taken off,” he said.
“The second big push I got was in 1991 when the duo of Narasimha Rao and Manmohan Singh initiated sweeping economic reforms. Just like many other entrepreneurs, I too was a beneficiary of those reforms,” he said.
Adani attributed the third turning point of his successful journey to the 1995 election of BJP’s Keshubhai Patel as Gujarat Chief Minister. Keshubhai foccused on coastal development which resulted in building his first port in Mundra.
And the group’s fourth turning point was attributed to then Gujarat CM Modi. “The fourth turning point was in 2001 when Gujarat witnessed a massive focus on development under Chief Minister Narendra Modi. His policies and their implementation went on to change the economic landscape of the state. It also allowed industries and employment to take off like never before,” Adani said.
“Today, under his able leadership, we are seeing a similar resurgence at the national and international levels, where a new India is now asserting itself,” he added.
However, the Lutyen’s media is trying to use these revelations to further their propaganda. They are showering encomiums on Rajiv Gandhi for being the first among the PMs to play a role in Adani’s growth. They are hiding the criticism he hurled on Rahul Gandhi’s propagandists and themselves.
