Shahjahanpur (UP): A chilling tale of rape in the guise of triple talaq and halala has come to fore again. This time in Yogi Adityanath’s Uttar Pradesh.
Giving an account of sexual torture she underwent at the hands of her husband Salman, a Muslim woman alleged that from the very first night her husband tried to establish forceful relationship and thrashed her whenever she objected to it.
Her protests fell on deaf ears. Her mother-in-law did not take any action against Salman. In one of the quarrels, the woman said, Salman mercilessly thrashed and broke her hand.
One fine day, Salman gave triple talaq to the woman in a fit of anger. As the woman started to pack her stuff, Salman sought the help of a Maulana. The Maulana said that as per Islamic law, now she is no longer his wife. She is Harãm for Salman. The hapless wife did not want a divorce. The Maulavi said that there is only one recourse. He told her to do halala with her brother-in-law Irfan.
Irfan took her to a village. He kept her there for 10 days for halala and tried to establish relations with her forcefully. Salman went to the village in anger and brought her back, but both the men are keeping her after halala.
Cops ignored her complaint
Wanting to put an end to her abusive trail, the woman approached the Shahjahanpur police station. But much to her disappointment, they did not register a complaint against the culprits.
This prompted her to knock on the doors of the judiciary and she filed cases against Salman, Munni, her father-in-law, mother-in-law and others. She also mentioned her saga about Islamic practice of Halala.
The court ordered for registration of FIR, after which the investigation into the event began. The Shahjahanpur police has registered a case after the court order. Investigation has been initiated and medical tests conducted.
The court also recorded the woman’s statements. The police have ensured the perpetrators’ arrests.
