Mumbai: In a major development, Shraddha’s father Vikas Walker on Tuesday suspected a love jihad angle in the grisly murder of his daughter. He has demanded death penalty for accused Aftab Amin Poonawalla.

“I suspected a love jihad angle. We demand the death penalty for Aftab. I trust the Delhi Police and the probe moving in the right direction. Shraddha was closer to her uncle and did not talk to me much. I was never in touch with Aaftab. I lodged the first complaint in Mumbai’s Vasai,” he told reporters.

Aftab Amin, Shraddha’s live-in partner had brutally killed 27 years old Shraddha. He murdered her in Delhi six months back ago. Currently, he is in the custody of Mehrauli police.

In a shocking revelation, Delhi police said the accused used to carry the pieces of Shraddha’s body parts in a black foil and threw them across Delhi.

Aftab picked up an argument with Shraddha on May 18 and allegedly strangulated her to death. The next day, he bought a saw and a 300-litre refrigerator. After chopping her into pieces, he stored the body parts inside the refrigerator.

Additional DCP South district Ankit Chauhan told reporters that Aftab was casting away the body parts over the period of months and stored them in his fridge.

Earlier in the morning, Delhi police officials took Aftab to the crime scene to recreate the crime and carry out investigations.

A Delhi court has remanded Aftab to five days police custody.

What is Love Jihad?

The term Love Jihad is used for crimes in which Muslim men lure non-Muslim women. In many such cases Muslim men present themselves as Hindus to the victim. Once the girl falls into the trap, criminals start physically or sexually abusing them. In some cases the criminals, his friends and his relatives sexually abuse the girls. The criminals either kill her or divorce her after some time.

The practice is getting rampant in many parts of the country. Governments of Himachal Pradesh and Karnataka have enacted laws to control this menace.

In fact, just last month, Karnataka police arrested a Muslim man under the new law on Love Jihad. Last year court had convicted a Muslim man Javed under the law against Love Jihad in UP.

People have been demanding a nation-wide anti-conversion law (generally called Love Jihad law).
