Nobel Peace Prize laureate Malala Yousafzai has got married. Pakistanis are congratulating her. But many are calling her out.
Just four months ago, she had questioned the institution of marriage. She had advocated partnership over marriage.
“I still don’t understand why people have to get married. If you want to have a person in your life, why do you have to sign marriage papers, why can’t it just be a partnership?” Malala had said in an interview to British Vogue magazine in June.
Interestingly, today her pictures with her husband signing the marriage papers has gone viral. Twitter users trolled her for her comments.
“You said Nikah is not important to be someone’s life partner, how comes you did nikah?” posted Ajmal Khan.
“Why all such so-called activists have double standards when it comes to their own conduct.. they are always ready to distribute gyan to others..,” said Pankaj Roy.
“Most of the Activists can’t stand still for too long on their own statements,” said a Twitter user.
“She did not understand why people get married, so she married to have clarity on why people get married,” quipped another Twitter user.
Some people supported her for her “personal decision”, but many said “personal decision” is fine, but why give gyan to others?
Malala has married Aseer Malik, senior officer of Pakistan Cricket Board. She Tweeted, “Today marks a precious day in my life. Asser and I tied the knot to be partners for life. We celebrated a small nikkah ceremony at home in Birmingham with our families. Please send us your prayers. We are excited to walk together for the journey ahead.”
Taliban terrorists had shot the 24-year-old human rights campaigner, who hails from Pakistan. She was only 15 then. She has received Nobel Peace Prize.
