It seems that Hindus are becoming target of bigots worldwide. After three back-to-back attacks in a month on sacred Hindu temples in Australia, it’s the turn of temples in Canada again. This time the hate crime took place in Brampton.

Now bigots have vandalised a Hindu temple ‘Gauri Shankar Mandir’ with ‘anti-India’ graffiti in Canada’s Brampton. Pictures of the temple, which is a symbol of Indian culture, showed “Hindustan murdabad, Khalistan zindabad” written on its walls with a graffiti.

Even in Canada this is not the first time such attacks on Hindu temples have been reported, but no major action against the Khalistani bigots is ever taken. This attitude of the Canadian authorities seems to have further bolstered the morale of Pakistan-sponsored Khalistanis.

Seeking action on the miscreants, the Indian Consulate General in Toronto issued a statement on Twitter, “ We strongly condemn defacing of Gauri Shankar Mandir in Brampton, a symbol of Indian heritage, with anti-India graffiti. The hateful act of vandalism has deeply hurt sentiments of Indian community in Canada.  We have raised our concerns on the matter with Canadian authorities.”

Brampton mayor’s lip service

Condemning the incident, Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown, tweeted, “The @CityBrampton condemns the defacing of Gauri Shankar Mandir. This hateful act of vandalism has no place in our City or Country.  I have raised my concerns over this hate crime with @ChiefNish and @PeelPolice. Everyone deserves to feel safe in their place worship.”

But, the Indian community slammed the Mayor on twitter. “Mere lip service, please try acting on it for once,” tweeted a user. Another asked him what stops him naming who did it.

Condemning is not enough

TS Sidhu, criticised the Brampton Mayor. He said, “Is condemning act enough? Why strict action can’t be taken in a timely manner. Are we trying to set the new order for civilized society? I could never think that the police system has literally surrendered before such bad elements.”

Taking on the vote bank politics, another user Seema Sharma vented her anger–“As nothing relevant was done when it happened the first time..be rest assured nothing will be done even now. They are bigger vote bank.. will give more money during poll season because they have more businesses. So I hope u got your answer.”
