Mysuru: Karnataka BJP MP Pratap Simha is in news once again. He has said that, if required, he will bulldoze the mosque like bus shelters. He was referring to such structures that are coming up across the city.

The BJP MP issued this warning after some of the pictures of the bus shelters went viral.

“I have seen gumbaz-like structures in bus shelters, one big gumbaz in the middle and two small on both sides of it. It is masjid only. I have told KR IDL engineers. I have given time for three or four days. If they don’t, I will take a JCB and demolish mosque like bus shelters,” he said while speaking at a book release event in Mysuru on Sunday.

Simha also said that if there is need of any symbolism in the structures in the city, it should resemble Goddess Chamundeshwari or Wodeyars, the erstwhile Hindu rulers of Mysuru.

Advertisment

“I will not allow any symbolic representation of a mosque in government structures,” he said.

The municipal body or those who built the mosque like bus shelters, have maintained silence on this issue.

Meanwhile, Congress has flayed Simha for his statement. Karnataka Congress Working President Salim Ahmed said, “This is a foolish statement by the Mysuru MP. Will he demolish government offices that have gumbaz-like structures too?”
