The USA has sent a stern message to China following the latest aggression by the Communist country against its ally India at Tawang.
White House’s press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre issued statement on the Chinese aggression. She said in a media briefing that the US was “closely monitoring” the situation along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) – the de facto boundary between India and China.
While Brig Gen Pat Ryder, the spokesperson of the US Department of Defence, stated, “It does reflect…the growing trend by the PRC to assert itself and to be provocative in areas directed towards the US allies and our partners in the Indo-Pacific (region).”
“…we will continue to remain steadfast in our commitment to ensuring the security of our partners….we fully support India’s ongoing efforts to de-escalate this situation,” he added.
Besides, being a major defence partner of the US, India is also part of the ‘Quad’. The Quadrilateral Security Dialogue (commonly called Quad) has India, Australia, Japan and US as the four members.
The soldiers of the two neighbouring nations clashed on December 9 at the Tawang sector in Arunachal Pradesh on the India-China border. Chinese troops attempted to transgress the LAC to unilaterally change the status quo.
This led to heated arguments and subsequently to a clash. The Indian soldiers used sticks to push back the Chinese troops. After deadly Galwan clashes in 2020, this is the first major face-off between the two nations.
