Teheran (Iran): The Islamic regime of Iran has come down heavily on its top actress Taraneh Alidoosti. Iranian authorities arrested the Oscar-winning film actress for faulting death penalty in the country. They have also charged her of allegedly spreading falsehood.

Taraneh Alidoosti had shared a post on Instagram in which she criticised Mohsen Shekari’s execution for participating in recent protests. She had posted her comments last week. Iran had executed Shekari on December 9.

“His name was Mohsen Shekari. Every international organisation who is watching this bloodshed and not taking action, is a disgrace to humanity,” the 38-year-old actress wrote. Earlier this month, Iranian authorities had convicted Shekari of blocking a street in Tehran and attacking a member of the nation’s security forces with a machete.

The police has arrested Taraneh because she did not provide “any documents in line with her claims.” Her Instagram account was suspended following her anti-government posts in recent months.

Advertisment

Widespread anti-government protests are continuing in Iran after the death of 22-year-old woman Mahsa Amini. Mahsa died in detainment for allegedly failing to follow the country’s dress code in September. Iran is experiencing nationwide backlash since Amini’s death. The Islamic morality police of Iran had detained her for breaking the strict rules of wearing Hijab.

Taraneh is the latest in a series of celebrity arrests that include footballers and other actors in response to their open display of support for anti-government demonstrations in their third month. At least 475 people have been killed in the demonstrations amid a heavy-handed security crackdown, according to Human Rights Activists in Iran.

The Anti Islamic sentiment

Shekari is not the only casualty against whom Taraneh and other concerned citizens are raising voice. Iran had publicly hanged yet another convict, Majidreza Rahnavard, on December 12. He had allegedly stabbed two security men to death and injured four others in the city of Mashhad. Mizan Online, a regime-affiliated news website, had reported his execution. The Islamic authorities had convicted him of “waging war against Allah.” Horrifically, the officials left his body hanging from a construction crane as a warning to others.

Majidreza announced a rational but courageous last wish. He asked authorities that no one should read verses of Quran on his last rites.
