UP Police shot Mohammad Sufiyan, during an encounter. He is the prime accused in the recent ‘love jihad’ case of Lucknow. Mohammad allegely killed 19-year-old Nidhi Gupta by throwing her off the fourth floor of a building. Police shot him in the leg and subsequently arrested him in Dubagga area of Uttar Pradesh.

The Yogi-government has a strict approach towards crime and criminals. Ever since Yogi came to power, the trend is apparent. Police has not been hesitant in opening fire on criminals whenever they have tried to flee.

In this particular case, Nidhi’s mother had accused Sufiyan of killing her daughter after she allegedly refused to convert to Islam and marry him. The Lucknow police had set a reward of Rs 25,000 for information leading to his arrest.

After the killing of the girl, there has been protests taking place in Lucknow as people demanded his arrest and strictest punishment in the case. The accused had sped away from the spot after the incident.

According to information, police got clue of his hide out and went to arrest him. Mohammad tried to escape forcing cops to open fire. As a result, he suffered a bullet injury on his right foot. Thereafter, the police arrested him and admitted him to King George’s Medical University (KGMU).

Another case of Love Jihad?

The teen’s family had alleged that Sufiyan, who is in his early 20s, was forcing her to convert to Islam. Following which, the police had registered an FIR under section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code along with relevant sections of the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Religious Conversion Act (or the so-called love jihad law) against him and started a manhunt. On a tip-off they reached his hiding place. Mohammad tried to flee when police shot in his leg.

The houses of the girl and the boy fell in the vicinity. The accused had allegedly been trying to befriend her and was harassing her. Girl’s family was against this friendship.
