Tarn Taran: Punjab police believe that Pakistani elements hatched the conspiracy of Rocket-Propelled Grenade (RPG) attack in Tarn Taran.

The police arrived at this conclusion after finding a grenade shell bearing the PK markings on it. Police believes that the terrorists smuggled the RPG from Pakistan. Earlier, the police had recovered the explosive material in a search operation.

The RPG attack was carried out at the Sarhali police station at 1 am on December 10. Nine police officials, including the SHO, were present in the station at that time. However, all of them were unhurt in the attack.

Investigations revealed that the terrorists fired RPG from a distance of about 100-150 metres away from the police station. The station is at a distance of about 30 km from the Indo-Pak border. The police has reportedly recovered RDX from the site.

The police has arrested four more local people in the case. According to police, two of them provided logistics for the attack.

Sources said that one of the detainees provided a bike to the conspirators and the other gave them shelter. They also helped assailants with geographical inputs of the location and even shared information on the escape route near the highway after carrying out the attack.

As of now, police is investigating 400 mobile phone numbers. Police has detained more than 15 suspects in the case.

Police have beefed up security across all police stations in Punjab as intelligence agencies warned that more such attacks may take place.

A similar attack involving an RPG was carried out in Mohali about seven months ago.
