Having already introduced Bhagwad Gita in the school curriculum, the Haryana government is now going to include verses from Gita in prayer meetings of schools across the state.

According to reports, a committee formed under the chairmanship of Geeta Manishi Swami Gyananand has recommended the same. Following which, the state Education Department has started making arrangements to implement it.

Earlier, Haryana govt had included Bhagwad Gita in moral education of schools. It also carries 10 marks in Hindi subject. Government distributes these books free of cost under the Right to Education Act for classes I to VIII. While for class IX to XII, the department has kept the books in library. The students of these upper classes can take the holy book free of cost from the library and deposit it, next year after completion of the course.

Haryana Govt organises the annual festival on the banks of Brahma Sarovar in Kurukshetra, the holy land of the Shrimad Bhagwad Gita. During the event, the President had offered flowers on the religious scripture Gita as she performed the yagna near Lord Shri Krishna’s chariot idol located at Purushottampura Bagh.

According to the Haryana tourism department, Srimad Bhagvad Gita is the holy book of Hindus. Consequently, the govt has dedicated Gita Jayanti Samaroh to the birth of Srimad Bhagvad Gita. The venue of the festival adds to the sacredness of the event. Kurukshetra is the land where Lord Krishna had delivered the celestial song ‘Bhagwad Gita’ to Arjun.

The place also holds significance as the famous sage Manu wrote Manusmriti here. The Rig Veda and the Sama Veda were also composed here. Apart from Lord Krishna, many spiritual personalities like Gautama Buddha and eminent Sikh Gurus had visited this holy place.

Srimad Bhagwad Gita has since its inception, been the philosophical guide and spiritual teacher for Hindus. In Gita, Lord Krishna has taught numerous lessons to Arjun. These profound lessons are ideal means of living one’s life. The holy scripture of Hindu mythology provides all the solutions for any problem of life.

During the Gita Jayanti Samaroh devotees and pilgrims from all over India gather at Kurukshetra. Every visitor observes the holy ritual of taking bath in holy water of the sacred tanks – Sannihit Sarovar and Brahma Sarovar. These numerous activities create a divine and spiritual environment.

It is a weeklong festival. During it, govt organises major attractions like shloka recital, dance performances, Bhagwad Katha reading, Bhajans, Dramas, Book Exhibitions and free Medical check-up camps.
