Hassan (Karnataka): Pejawar seer has demanded more teeth to the existing laws on forced religious conversion and cow slaughter. Vishwaprasanna Theertha Swamiji, the seer is an expert swimmer and Yoga exponent.
The seer, on his visit to Raghavendra Mutt here on Monday demanded stringent laws by government. He stated that though the state government has enacted the legislations on forced religious conversion and cow slaughter, incidents related to the issues are still taking place.
“The government should make the laws more powerful. The existing laws are becoming an eye wash. There is a need to implement the laws in their true spirit.”
“Despite the Anti-Conversion Act, the forceful religious conversions are still going on. Conversions abets hatred and acrimony in society. The government should make special efforts to make the existing laws more powerful,” the seer added.
He further claimed that cow slaughtering is also continuing in the state, adding that many people eke their livelihood out of selling cow milk. “The government and the police should take stringent action in this regard. They should prevent such developments, only then peace and harmony are possible in the society,” the seer said.
He said there has been persistent fear-mongering over these two laws, especially the anti-conversion law. The seer also ruled that the Congress had assured to do away with these laws if they came to power.
A delegation of Christian religious leaders have made a submission to Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai asking for the withdrawal of the anti-conversion Act.
