“This is a time to look ahead and also look at the past. Our Vedas say let noble thoughts come from all directions. And India believes in global cooperation,” Modi said at the inauguration of the Interpol general assembly.
PM Narendra Modi was addressing Interpol general assembly in New Delhi. Delegates from 195 Interpol member countries will attend the three day assembly. The delegates will be Police chiefs, heads of national central bureaus and senior police officers from member countries. In some cases, ministers will also participate.
The meeting is taking place in India after a gap of about 25 years. Previously, India had hosted such a meeting in 1997. India had offered to host the event to coincide with 75 years of its independence. The assembly had accepted the proposal with overwhelming majority.
Today, there are many harmful things that the world faces. Terrorism, Corruption, Drug Trafficking, Poaching and Organised crime. When the threats are global, the response can not be just local. It is high time that the world comes together, to defeat these threats.
