The Enforcement Directorate hast arrested Bhupinder Singh Honey, nephew of Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Channi. The arrest is for the alleged money laundering case related to illegal sand mining.
ED had summoned Honey to the directorate’s office on Thursday. Officials of ED questioned Bhupinder Singh regarding the case when he visited the office. Officials questioned him regarding the recovery of Rs 8 crore in cash and other valuables from his place. Directorate had recovered the cash and valuables in a raid about two weeks ago.
The questioning went on for hours. Around midnight the ED sleuths got his medical examination conducted before keeping him in lockup in its Jalandhar office.
Honey’s arrest is likely to have political implications as there have been indications that AICC leader Rahul Gandhi may announce the Congress’s chief minister face in the coming few days.
e opposition parties have been already blaming the Congress government for promoting mafia raj in the state where sand mafia, liquor mafia, real estate mafias have been running the state.
