Tripura: Late Tuesday, unidentified people attacked priests outside the ancestral home of former Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb. Biplab lives in Udaipur in Gomati district, Tripura.

As per reports, CPI (M) backed goons of Muslim community attacked the Hindu priests. They not only torched Deb’s house, but also damaged vehicles.

The local police are investigating the matter. The incident took place when a group of priests arrived at residence of Biplab Deb. The former CM had invited them to perform a Yajna for the annual Shradh ceremony of his father Hirudhan Deb.

As the goons were attacking the priests and vadalising their vehicles, the bystanders and locals came to their rescue. The attackers fled after the intervention of the bystanders.

One of the priests, Jitendra Kaushik, whose vehicle was damaged, shared his ordeal, “I came to visit Maa Tripura Sundari temple. Here I came on instructions of our Gurudev ji to overlook the preparations of the Yajna. We have to perform the Yajna at residence of former CM Biplab Deb on Wednesday. Suddenly a mob came and attacked me and vandalised my vehicle. They shouted either there will be CPI(M) or none,” reported ANI.

After the incident, the local people staged a protest and vandalised shops believed to be of the attackers.

Following the chaos, administration has deployed police personnel outside Biplab Deb’s residence to maintain law and order.
