Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh has courted another controversy. His picture and video have emerged with Ravinder Singh Pinka, hijacker of an Indian Airlines plane.

The Jathedar is in Pakistan to attend a convention on the occasion of 100th anniversary of Saka Panja Sahib.

Interestingly, SGPC had tweeted the picture and video. But, after the controversy erupted, SGPC deleted the tweet. By then, net users had taken screenshots and downloaded this video.

The Jathedar was earlier also in news for wrong reasons. He had said that every Sikh should possess a “licensed modern weapon” because “such circumstances are developing.” “The teachings of Guru Hargobind Singh Sahib are still relevant.

There is a need, especially for Sikh boys and girls, to follow the orders of Guru Hargobind Singh. They should take training in ‘gatka’ (a traditional martial art), sword fighting and shooting. And every Sikh should also try to possess a licensed modern weapon. Because such are the times. And such circumstances have been developing.

Hardline organisation Dal Khalsa has asked Pakistan for political asylum to Gajinder Singh, its founder and one of the hijackers.

He has now been spotted at Gurdwara Panja Sahib in Hasan Abdal. He had hijacked an Indian Airlines’ Delhi-Srinagar flight to Lahore to demand the release of dreaded millitant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale in 1984.

The organisation said the leader had served the life sentence in Pakistani prison. The appeal to Pakistani government is in the form of a resolution passed at a secessionist convention in a local gurdwara. Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Harjinder Singh Dhami attended that convention, where he praised Gajinder Singh for his”contribution to the Sikh struggle. He was also honoured on the occasion.
